NOTED! – The book “Dig Deeper: Tools for Understanding God’s Word” is now available

Dig deeper, published by the Budapest Institute for Contemporary Christianity is an indispensable work for a deeper understanding of the Bible.

When it comes to reading and understanding the Bible, non-Christians and some believers often use a dangerous phrase: “Well, that’s your interpretation.” It is true that without a careful interpretation, the Bible can “say” almost anything. This volume is born out of the conviction that there is a right way and a wrong way to interpret the Bible, and the authors help us to read the Bible correctly.

Dig Deeper offers readers sixteen “tools” to help them discover the meaning of any biblical passage by digging deeper to discover the meaning that matches the original intent of the biblical author. He uses examples to show how each tool can help the reader discover something exciting and important in a text. And the “Dig deeper exercises” provide an opportunity to practice using the tools. The book’s concise and easy-to-read format is ideal for any Christian who wants to get the most out of the Bible, seeking to understand God’s Word accurately.

Nigel Beynon met and worked with Andrew Sach as a youth pastor at St. Helen’s Bishopsgate in London. Before writing this book, they served together for three years, preaching the gospel to students in this church. Andrew Sach studied theology at Oak Hill College, London, and is currently pastor of Grace Church, Greenwich, London, and an instructor at the Cornhill Training Course.

Below are some recommendations.

This book is a first-class toolkit to help you read and understand the Bible. The Bible is the book that every Christian can turn to hear the voice of God. It is not just the domain of Christian scholars. One does not have to be an intellectual to read and understand the Bible. In fact, to understand what does not seem clear at first reading, the key is to obey what is already clear. I pray that this toolkit will encourage more and more Christians to approach the Bible with renewed enthusiasm. (Australian evangelist John Chapman)

Nigel and Andrew have written a great book on how to better know God and God’s will for our lives and how to read the Bible. I really like it. In fact, I think we will start using it in our church. (Mark Dever, pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., president of 9marks.org)

At last, we have in our hands the book we have been waiting for, a modestly sized volume that lays out the main principles of biblical exegesis in clear, accessible, engaging language! I will keep a stock of it in my office for gifting to aspiring preachers and for refreshing my own preaching. This is the way to faster progress for all preachers and expositors! (R. Kent Hughes, Senior Pastor, Wheaton College Campus Church, Illinois)

A collection of excellent, user-friendly principles to help the Bible reader understand and apply the message of the Word with increasing confidence and relevance. (David Jackman, former President of The Proclamation Trust)

This book is simply brilliant! It is practical, understandable, and will revolutionize the way we read the Bible. It will help us to see the Bible not as a “McGyors but not too nutritious” snack, but rather as a buffet feast. Dig deeper and get to know God better! (Linda Marshall, author of Pure)

As I serve among college students, I am constantly looking for resources to put in the hands of eager, thinking young people who are hungry to know and teach God’s Word to others. It is a great hermeneutical work, but more than that – it highlights the authority of truth throughout. It is profound yet accessible, and reflects a pastoral spirit. I am happy to place it in the hands of my students. (Jay Thomas, Campus Minister at Wheaton College Church, Illinois)
